Communication demands are changing – for consumers, but also for businesses. Organizations are looking for better, faster and cheaper ways to connect individuals, departments and companies at a local, national and international level. However, optimal global communication is only possible if we acknowledge the fact that a shift in business communications systems is needed.

We need to let go of the idea of separate independent devices and solutions from different vendors that all fulfill their own task. Instead, an integrated and connected business communications eco system is the answer for a lot of organizations and their business communications needs. But what are the characteristics of such an eco system? And as a provider of communications devices or services, how do you make sure you optimally integrate various products and services into one single solution?

The key of a successful business communications eco system for organizations is user-friendly product that are easy to connect. Whether you’re talking about desktop telephones, DECT handsets, computers or smart solutions like door cameras or door opening systems; organizations need to be able to create one single understandable method of use of all these products for its employees. This way, employees are able to save time and optimally benefit from all the possible features of a device or system. It’s the key to running a business more efficiently in terms of both time and money.

It’s all about interoperability

But how do you deliver an integrated business communications solution? The magic word is interoperability. Nowadays, partnering with interoperability partners or third-party vendors is crucial to meet the requirements of businesses. A close collaboration between your own product management and development department and your partners or vendors is important to exchange information on demands, features and needs of the businesses you serve. By enabling interoperability between hardware – like telephony systems and smart office solutions – and software – like cloud platforms or Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) software – you will be able to jointly create one single eco system.

From reseller to service provider

Resellers and distributors play an important role in this matter. When organizations are looking for an integrated business communications eco system, they depend on the experience and know-how of these parties to advise them on the right product and applications that fit their needs. Therefore, it’s important that resellers no longer sell separate devices. They need to sell a solution, based on the business needs and the interoperability possibilities of devices and platforms. This means we are also working more and more towards a service provider model for resellers, for example with companies paying a monthly fee for online and offline service offered by resellers.

Although various companies, parties and even countries have their own definition of the term ‘business communications eco system’, in my opinion there are three key words that describe a successful eco system: user-friendliness, interoperability and service. That’s what businesses need to be ready for the future.
